| Description |
Between 1970 and 1975 an ice avalanche run on the glacier. The exact place and the type of detachement that origined the avalanche is unknown; probably it should have taken place from the border ridge (Italy-Switzerland), which is covered by transfluent ice from Switzerland.
The avalanche path (about 1 km long and 150 m wide) is well recognizable in an aerial photograph of 1975. It involved ice, snow, debris and glacial sediments, and probably its volume was about 5000 m3. |
