Description |
End of august 1987 : an important serac fall happened on the Grands Couloirs glacier, in the West slope of the Grande Casse. About 200.000m3 of ice took of from the glacier at 3700m of altitude. It has sliced on the bed rock, near the top of the glacier under the Pointe Mathews, and it has been transformed in avalanche with an aerosol which has swept all the slope before stopping near the lake Long at 2500m of altitude. During its course the avalanche has struck the lateral moraine of the Grands Couloirs glacier, causing earth tremor which have been recorded in the station of La Plagne |
