| Description |
A sudden emptying of the Locce proglacial lake took place in the early afternoon. The emptying began around midday; water outburst through an underground way, and emerged some hundreds meters below, on the right side of Belvedere glacier, canalizing between ice and lateral moraine, then poured through the ancient breach close to Zamboni alpine hut. The debris flow was dammed from a large snow avalanche accumulation near Belvedere hut, forming a lake of 30.000 m3. Some breaking of the snow dam (1.25-1.45 PM) caused the flooding of the areas below. The wave alog Pedriola stream was up to six meters high. |

The chairlift station of Alpe Burki was destroyed, and below the debris flow covered the valley in a 1 km lenght and 150 m width. |

| Note |
At 3 P.M. the Pedriola stream flow was quite normal again, and at 5.30 P.M. water level in Locce lake was 5 m lower. Probably the volume of water discharged was about 300.000 m3.
The keeper of Zamboni alpine hut, when realized what was happening, warned people in Macugnaga village and in Burki huts about the danger, leading to their safety. |
