Type:  Glacier flood (contain both lakes and water pocket)
Description  Another partial emptying of the lake occurred in an indefinable period between summer 1933 and summer 1934.
Effects:  Water level decreased, and the lake separated in two smaller parts.

EVENT:  Date  //1932 -  Date quality:

Type:  Glacier flood (contain both lakes and water pocket)
Description  Slow emptying of 500.000 m3 of water from Galambra Lake (altitude 3004 m), probably during autumn 1932. Nobody realized that the lake emptyed until summer 1933, because it discharged with a low rate, some cubic meters per second. The lake was dammed by glacier snout and moraine. In 1929 the lake had a surface of 0.064 km2, and was 450 m long (E-W) and 230 m large (N-S). After the outburst, water level decreased of 14 m; water overflew slowly through crevasses in the ice, or through the bedrock. In summer 1933, its dimensions was only 62 x 28 m. After the huge retreat, in 1947 there were only three small lakes, far from the glacier.

Note  The lake formed in 1830's. In 1886 its surface was about 35.000 m2 (0.035 km2); it had a maximum lenght of 390 m, maximum width of 140 m, and its altitude was 3026 m.
