EVENT:  Date  4/8/1936 -  Date quality:

Type:  Ice avalanches
Description  At 10.10 P.M., an ice and rock avalanche (about 200.000 m3) covered quickly over 3 km, and a total difference of altitude of 1250 m. The mass detached from "Cresta di Felik", very close to "Quintino Sella" (3585 m) alpine hut, and fell on Perazzi glacier. Its volume was probably higher than 200.000 m3.
Effects:  The rock and ice avalanche run between lateral moraines of Perazzi glacier, then swept away the LIA (Little Ice Age) frontal moraine and "Superiore di Verra" hut (2345 m), where three persons remained unhurt.

Note  Already in the years before the event, several crevasses through the rock appeared and enlarged near the "Quintino Sella" hut. On August 3rd, 1936, a mountain guide noticed that the steps of the Sella hut's stair were inclined. In the late afternoon of August 4th, the imminent collapse was announced by several, small rock-falls.
