EVENT:  Date  25/7/1997 -  Date quality:

Type:
Description  it was appreciatively the same event as in 1991, but with 70.000 m3 of water
Effects:  the small valley of Chauvet has been devastated, and the cone of dejecta at Ubaye level has still increased
Deaths(#)  0
Injuried (#)  0
Note  however, the two last events are recent, well-detailed and very rich in information. Many persons have been interested by this recurrent phenomenon. Moreover, glaciers of the massif of Chambeyron have been the subject of a thesis, and several inhabitants of the valley of the Ubaye are very attentive at the evolution of the glacier of Chauvet. So, many pictures have been taken, and the last emptying has still been filmed by mountaineers, which give us good information

EVENT:  Date  14/7/1991 -  Date quality:

Type:  Glacier flood (contain both lakes and water pocket)
Description  a glacial lake has emptied by a channel which has been opened in the ice (diameter 4m, length 20m). The phenomenon has happened for 2 hours. It has caused a mud-flow with ice blocks in the gully of Chauvet. The volume of the lake has been estimated at about 50.000 m3
Effects:  trees have been barked and recovered by silts until 5 m high, and an important cone of dejecta has been made at Ubaye level, which water level has increased of 60 cm during the event

EVENT:  Date  1/7/1969 -  Date quality:

Type:  Glacier flood (contain both lakes and water pocket)
Description  the emptying is the cause of an important released of water
Effects:  a big part of the small valley of Chauvet has been gullied, and the channel of the Ubaye very grounded, diverging it on the right bank. After this event, a collapse of the surface of the glacier of 20 m has been noticed
Deaths(#)  0
Injuried (#)  0
Note  the global quality of the information concerning this event is medium, sources are reliable, but recitals and testimonies don’t give further information concerning volumes, and flow

EVENT:  Date  1/1/1956 -  Date quality:

Type:  Glacier flood (contain both lakes and water pocket)
Description  water pocket outburst ?
Effects:  some morphological signs seen on a air picture of the I.G.N., and also a little cone of dejecta at Ubaye level, reveal that a phenomenon of emptying has occurred
Deaths(#)  0
Injuried (#)  0
Note  the global quality of the information concerning these event is limited. Actually, these are only deductions because information concerning this phenomenon has been lost
